I'm trying to create a server environment at home with my local PC for development. I have loaded MS Personal Web Server with MTS, after a Dll problem solved elsewhere in Tek-Tips i'm still not sure its up and running correctly?

I want to point to a local Access database, include it with ColdFusion Studio and Cold fusion single user server and Dreamweaver. I'm using Windows 98. The Administrator of ColdFusion has verified that the drivers and I believe database are OK...but I can include or find the named database in Studio?

How do I tell that I have a local server network running?
Can someone walk me thru the steps to setup this environment or point me to a clear set of instructions to do same. I'm very confused at this point!!

I wrote a tremendous and very informative post to reply to your question, but my computer froze as I was posting it. So now I will just say that you have to buy Ben Forta's first ColdFusion book (ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit) and review Studio's help documents. It covers everything you need to know. This forum is for helping people who are stumped--not retyping information that is readily available.

You may have forgotten, you responded very nicely on other needs....clearly I'm lost and spinning my wheels, I have three sources of info, PWS, CF help and a reference book on CF...not the Forta's you mention....there must be a simplier way of getting me up and running...1st PWS problems, then CF Adm and now Studio and you ....well....!

Studio and me? I take time out my day to help you on this forum. You better rethink that last statement of yours. I empathize with you because I was once in your position, so I'm trying to help you as much as possible.

First off, get Forta's book at Amazon.com. The other book you have clearly does not cater to your needs and there is a reason why they call Forta's book the Bible.

Once PWS is up and running, simply learn how to create virtual directories in the easy-to-use interface and then don't worry about it--it runs in the system tray without any interaction. There is nothing more you have to know about it.

Also refer heavily to the help located inside Studio (one of the Resource tabs is allows you to access tag reference, language sytax, etc.).

When you loaded on ColdFusion you most likely also loaded help documents. These should be available at (locally):
