Hi,

the question how to enter single user mode has been answered before,
e.g. thread51-1008055

And please do not delete scripts from /sbin/init.d; you might need them later on.

hope this helps

Thanks Hoinz! that information helped me in.

For startup scripts, do they have to go in /sbin/init.d also, or just in the runlevel like /sbin/rc3.d?

Thanks!

Glad it helped.

Scripts in /sbin/init.d are just kind of templates, in case you need them elsewhere.
Scripts in /sbin/rc3.d are executed at boot time, provided the name begins with capital S and a number.
man rc for details.
