Single to Facing Pages: bleed overlap problem

I have an 18 page document that was built using a single page layout with a quarter inch bleed around all four edges. The printer has requested that the document be changed to facing pages. However, when I select Facing Pages in the Document Setup, an overlap occurs at the inside edges of all the pages!

That is to say: the right-edge bleed for the left facing page overlaps a quarter inch onto the right facing page (and vica versa)!

How can I fix this?

...there isn't a quick fix for this situation, you will have to adjust it manually after changing to facing pages...

...we sometimes receive single page layouts for multipage documents, which for our CTP workflow isn't a problem as we export to single page pdf or postscript anyway. The imposition software then deals with clipping bleeds down the spines and pagination required for binding...

...if they use a CTP workflow, i'm confused as to why your print provider requires facing pages really...

...if you design multipage layouts with graphics etc crossing the spines it is easier to work with in facing pages...

...from a digital CTP imposition point of view it doesn't really matter whether it's facing or single page layout, what does matter is that the graphics, and the like, across the spines line up correctly...
