Hi,

HP1533a Drive (normal DDS2), Arcserve 6.6. Log says that drive needs cleaning. However Windows backup works Ok after I made a cleaning manually to drive.

So question:
In Arcserve there's also "clean Tape Head" command. Could/should this we used to make drive back alive... or any other possibilities?

Thanks!

The 'clean tape head' command only works with tape libraries/autoloaders, not with single drives.
You have to clean your drive manually

regards

The log will only report the drive needs cleaning when the drive reports that it needs cleaning to the Tape Engine.

Check the media database to see how many soft errors and hard/media errors there are for each of the tapes. Look to see if there are certain tapes with a lot more errors or if it is pretty even. This will help to indicate if it is a tape or drive problem.

For more info on soft errors see faq478-4005.
