hello....
I am running Veritas NetBackup 3.4 on a Solaris 8 platform and using it to control an Exabyte (X80) robotic tape library with Mammoth 2 tape drives. Veritas will periodically down one or two (sometimes all 4 !!) of the drives and report an I/O error, media position error, or media write error as the cause. Is this due to the number of drives controlled by the SCSI card or do I have a batch of bad tapes???
any thoughts, similiar issues, or answers are greatly appreciated

thanks, Brantley Fry

Hi,

This happens from time to time for various reasons. A quick fix would be to use a script called drive watch (provided my David A. Chapa), the script will monitor the status of you drives using various netbackup utilities and bring the drives back online when they go down.

Ultimately the best thing is to find out why this is happening, however the script will keep you in business while your investigating.

The script and other netbackup scripts are available at: http://

thanks for the info stickybit...
I'll download the script and give it a shot... Brantley Fry
