Existing High Speed Internet Service on copper to System.
Network fans out on multi-mode with transceivers to Cat5e and cat5e runs within the building.
Getting high speed service upgraded and the Telco is
providing that service on Single Mode fiber.

One 6 fiber Multi Mode runs from where the Single Mode fiber
is to be terminated to the main server and patch panel area.

I have heard of, but never seen a mode conditioning patch
cord MM to SM. Could you patch the service on the SM to
the MM to the main service area? The SM runs are 1000'max.
Would it be doable or should all MM be replaced with SM

Usually the telco terminates that fiber into something. usually they give you an ethernet handoff. ihave never seen them connect to the customers fiber.

I would be surprised if the telco hands you single mode fiber.
I have many MetroE circuits from three diffferent telco's.

They bring it into the building using single-mode, but then they install a small 2-port switch (usually a Canoga-Perkins unit). From there they hand off multi-mode fiber, usually SC or ST connection.

The products that jimbopalmer recommended is what we use. Their are other versions of the same thing from other manufactures, but they do the same thing. Just be sure to get the right mode converter for what you need. I think they run around $900.00.

We have single mode coming in for OC3 for the telecomm side of the house and OC48 for data all on a 36 strand single mode fiber.

The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand. The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles. The wireless is the same, only without the cat.

Mode conditioning patch cords are designed to eliminate differential mode delay on old style multimode fiber.

Regretably, the old style mm fiber is still being manufactured. You can easily identify it, though. It'll say "FDDI" on the cable jacket. Mode conditioning patch cables make this old style cable capable of 1Gps.
