I am running BE 8.6, latest build. My Veritas server runs on my Exchange server. Normal backups run fast. I have a special backup that does the single mailboxes on Sunday and it only runs at like 2kb/hr so the backup is taking 32 hours, while my full server backups take only 7 hours.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm assuming you're talking about Brick Level backups on your mail server? Interesting to note. I have a fiber back bone in place and can finish a backup of the information store and exchange files in less than 3 hours, but when it comes to doing the mailboxes, I too have similar issue that you're mentioning here. I wonder if this is a limitation of the brick level backup? I'm curious to here feedback on this one.

Also, does the backup agent need to be installed on the server that does the backups too? In previous versions of BE (7.x) you were not supposed to have the agent installed on the same server that was the backup server.

I don't have the agent installed on the server.

Let me know. Thanks.

Ok, I changed my buffer and block size to 64K from 32K in the device configuration and changed the antivirus scanning mode to just MAPI and ran a test backup. I only let it run for a few since I didn't want to bog down the network, but it was running at 41mb/min instead of 2mb/min, so it is definately an improvement!

Hope this helps others.
