We need to segment our class C network. Currently we have one Windows 2008 Server running DHCP and the network is 192.168.10.x mask 255.255.255.0.

We have another building on campus containing 50 devices. The new network will be 192.168.20.x mask 255.255.255.0.

A HP Procurve layer 3 switch will be available to implement a VLAN for each network.

Can I supply DHCP to both networks from our existing server? If so, can someone tell me how it will work and how it will know to provide 192.168.10.x addresses to VLAN1 and 192.168.20.x addresses to VLAN2.

Thanks,

Rather than using the DHCP relay agent on a Windows server (which requires a server on each subnet), most routers and layer 3 switches support a DHCP relay-type functionality for exactly this sort of scenario. I believe on Cisco it is called IPHelper, but your HP hardware should have a similar feature. Basically have whatever hardware that is handling the routing between the subnets do the relay of the DHCP information.
