My in-laws live miles away and have a problem with their Outlook on XP. They tell me that their incoming mail messages open as soon as they click on them (making it hard to delete suspicious mail as I've advised).

I don't have XP. Can anyone tell me where the setting might be to change the 'message open' action to require a double- click.

This would score me some valuable points with the outlaws.

Are you using Outlook (as in Office XP) or do you mean Windows XP. In Windows XP you cam change the folder options within Windows Explorer.

With Outlook, is it that they need to change the view with regards to their e-mail messages?

Cheers

Bearing in mind that they are in their 60's and this is their first computer, it's hard to be too confident from a phone conversation, but I'm reasonably sure they're using Outlook.

For Outlook Express:-

Goto View - Layout and deselect "Show Preview"

For Outlook 2000/2002:-

Select the "InBox" in the Folder List. Goto View and select "Preview Pane" and/or "Auto Preview". These are toggle settings.
