Since purchasing new machine it gets slower...

A friend recently brought a new pc from a friend (2.4Ghz, 512mb Ram, 2 x 40Gb HDD)
I installed a fresh copy of XP PRO on it with no problems... For about 2 months the pc was fine until latley, where it has been suffering with preformance issues.
I have already removed any unnessecery software, defragmented the drives and run Scandisk...I kno that an XP Install can EVENTUALLY get slower but usually not after 2 months... any help would be appreciated

Have you done Service Pack 2? Do so.
And add another 512mb of RAM.

Ive already incresead the page file n yes SP2 has been installed. I have now installed the extra 512Mb Ram n is now running a lot happier. Thanks a lot for your very speedy reply!
