Can anyone help on this?
Customer has an IP406V2. Music is played overhead throughout the store. When they page, it cuts the music and pages overhead. They also have 6 phone locations that they need simultaneous paging to come through the handsets. We can get the break in and telephones to work ONLY if the music source is not on. When it's on, the paging to the phones will not work. The voltage coming through the analog atation ports seems to be causing this. Any suggestions?

does the amp do the muting for the music overhead or do you have a seperate device so you can hook up both to the same input?
It should not make a difference if the music is playing or not for you to page one group with additional extensions or just the one analog port that has the paging amp hooked up.

The music is plugged into the paging control unit (Valcom) from there the paging output with music goes to the amplifier. The Valcom unit controls the cutting off of the music. This is all off an analog station port so we can do simultaneous.

It is quite weird that it actually works when the music is off, I can't think of anything that would prevent the page to go to the other extensions only becasue one of them (paging extension) is doing something funny.
Maybe someone else had something similar and knows, I am stumped.

What Valcom unit are you using?

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

The Valcom unit tried is the V-9970. When I hooked it all up I can get the simultanious paging to work. Problem is once I connect the music, no music comes through on the over head speakers. Once I disconnect the paging unit from the analog station port, the music comes through fine. When I spoke to valcom tech support they said the problem was the voltage coming through the sation port is killing the music. The station port is configured as a paging port by the way.

aarenot - we tried using it with the wmt1-a and that didnt help any.

From a cursory look at the docs (I had a major pain in neck with a valcom system recently) It looks like the valcom will work station-side.

2 things to try - the WMT1-a again. This is essentially a barrier box that prevents loop current from passing over to the valcom.

I'd also try setting the port back to standard station (i.e. not paging port) as it looks to me like the valcom is expecting a standard port

Not sure if this is possible. I have tried to get paging amps and phones to page at the same time but was told that the IPO will not page to alog and digital/ip at the same time.

Tried all sorts of things (also using a valcom). even the old INDeX way of using the speaker connection of the handset cord!!!

Fooball is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

sounds to me that the problem is actually in the Valcom box, because both items work seperately, but as soon as both are connected one excludes the other, change the settings around for the input of the paging on the valcom because that prevents the music from coming through and so this is blocking the other input, and see what happens.

We have simultaneous paging at most of our installs - never had a problem. We ALWAYS put an isolation transformer between IPO analog station port and the page control unit.

Matt - I did try setting the port back from a paging port to an anolog port, nothing changed. I will give the WMT1-A another shot.

Escorthosis - The system is at 3.2, tech tip 197 is for 4.0 and higher, thanks for the suggestion though.

mforrence - Do you have simulatious paging working with music going out over the overhead speakers as well? The simulatious paging I can get working no problem.

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions!

I have dozens of units out there doing simult paging, and also using BGM with no issues. Search for station port paging, there are many posts on how to do it on here which I have detailed the proccess in. I detail how to eliminate the UPAM, and go direct to the amp as well. I nearly never use a UPAM.
