I mentioned you guys because you are good. Very good. Do you know of a way to pull Access records in a query based on phonetics? I want to pull all records that are spelled simular to or sounds like a string. This would account for typos.

TheBammer thanks you in advance.

in the criteria of the field that you are searching you can try using a wildcard. For Example:

* Matches any number of characters. It can be used as the first or last character in the character string.
wh* finds what, white, and why

? Matches any single alphabetic character.
B?ll finds --> ball, bell, and bill

[ ] Matches any single character within the brackets.
B[ae]ll finds --> ball and bell but not bill

! Matches any character not in the brackets.
b[!ae]ll finds --> bill and bull but not bell

- Matches any one of a range of characters. You must specify the range in ascending order (A to Z, not Z to A).
b[a-c]d finds --> bad, bbd, and bcd

# Matches any single numeric character.
1#3 finds --> 103, 113, 123

There is a process referred to as "Soundex", which is used for phonetic matching. A relatively somplex process devised by a (U.S.) Gov. for use in matching names. It works really well for most "Proper Name" listings in English. The concept would work for opther languages as well, however the dipthongs of the other languages would need to replace the listings for "English". I haven't seen this mentioned in some time, so if you are interested in English and cannot fint it, post back here, and I will see if I can find a copy.
