Simplepie installation help?

Might not be the correct forum but a search of posts turned up nothing. So here I go:

Has anyone successfully installed Simplepie for use within a php program? I've followed the included instructions as provided and I cannot even get it to start. If any one has please provide a link, pointer, simple tutorial, etc? I'm not able to get any response anywhere I look.
