Hi

I have not used Watchguard before and so 6this must seem pretty basic, but it is driving me mad.

I have a Watchguard V10 straight out the box. I have cabled the Private Interface to my laptop via a crossover cable (i've tried with straight through via a hub too. I have the V10 started up. I can console in with hyperterminal, but cannot connect with V Controller.

I get a message telling me that the device can't be found, and to try Find Again. I have tried about 50 times, reset the box to factory default a la advice on this forum, but still can't get connected, or for that matter, get V controller to even see the V Class.

Is this the usual experiance with watchguard? Is it a bug, or am I missing the obvious.

Have you tried changing your ip address to the same network and subnet mask as the v10? You must be on the same network as the v10 to connect via vcontroller. Also, try manually entering the ip address of the v10 instead of using find.

This thread is old so this may no longer apply but...

They are a little cludgey out of the box.
Upgrade both the system software and the vcontroller software to the latest.

Make sure that you wait to connect to the V10 until the ready light is steady green. These boxes are maddening in that they take so long to boot.

I just installed my first one and it seems to work well.
