Hello everyone,

I am somewhat new to any advanced functionality of access. I can make basic queries/forms/reports but thats about it. What I am looking to do is update a table based on the value of one of the columns and update values in about 4 other columns. I would like the user prompted for all values in this query. I have added a query, set it to an update query and added in the "Update to:" fields a number of "[Enter data here]" style entries which normally pop up a window prompting the user to enter information. The only problem is, it only prompts the first "[Enter data here]" type entry that I have in my "Update to" fields instead of one after another. Is this some kind of limitation or am I going about it all wrong? Thanks in advance.

You DIFFERENT parameter for each column to update ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Maybe I was not clear. Let me try again. I would like to have the query prompt the user for a value to use as criteria in one column, and then prompt the user for values to place in 4 other columns as an update. What is happening is I am being prompted for the value to use as criteria (my "[Enter data here]") and prompted for my first "[Enter data here]" to use as a value for one of the columns being updated, but the remaining "[Enter data here]" type entries that are supposed to be updated by data the user enters are not being prompted, so only my first "[Enter data here]" entry is being observed and the rest are being ignored.

sounds like you need to create a form that gets all the information you need at one time and then use the form object names in the query.

That sounds like a good solution, although I am not that talented. Maintaining the access database for the small company I work for is just one of my responsibilities. I found what I was doing wrong fortunately. In my [Enter data here] fields, I had accidentally put the same value in my [ ] as was the name of the column, so basically in the "Sold to" column, I had my "Update to:" to to "[Sold to]", which just re-used the original value. Thank you both for your contributions.
