I'm running wK2000.
How can i go to DOS prompt for a FORMAT c.
it won't work when i use a start diskette form windows 98.

Get your windows 2000 CD and boot from it, it will prompt you during setup to format the drive.

If you want to put Windows 98 back on the drive. Download the utility delpart.exe ( Use this to remove the NTFS partition created by Windows 2000. Boot from your Windows 98 Start Disk and use FDISK to recreate the partition, then reboot (very important step). Boot up again with the Windows 98 Start Disk and format the C: drive. Hope this helps.

Good points. You can not format an NTFS partition. You need to run fdisk from a win98 boot disk to delete the partition and then you can format it. Once you do this you will lose all your data and you will no longer be able to boot the computer until a new OS is installed.
