i never touch pix before so here goes..
a pix box is running, if i want to change it ip addressing scheme, lets say i want to change its outside interface ip
whats the easiest way to do that?dont wanna break its rule set

ip address outside xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The only think that might break it's rule set is if your global is setup for a specific IP on the outside, which has now changed.

HI.

The answer depends on many things.

If this is the production firewall for your office network, and since you have never touched it, I suggest that you ask the company that installed it or another one to help you.

Changing ip addresses might also require changes in DNS, routers, and of course the pix itself.

Do you have servers behind the pix (mail/web server, etc)?

Anyway, 2 of the first steps are:
1) Detailed planning, co-ordinated with the ISP.
2) Copying and printing out the current pix configuration, and also neighbor routers configuration.

its a production pix but not for office for its ok if its down for a day or two ;-) , just dont wanna spend too much time with that thing for now

btw.. can we do this?
copy its config then edit it with wordpad or something then upload it back to pix, and reboot
if so, how?
