It's the code that puts the non-browser specific icon (lt. blue page with an "e" for IE and the Firefox logo for Firefox, etc.) on your desktop when you right-click a page and select Create Shortcut.

Also for the little icon that show up in the browser adress bar and, I beleive, in your shortcuts (favorites).

In your case the orange logo with SN in it.

IE, especially version 6, is notorious for its buggy support of the custom icons. It works nicely in Geckos (Mozilla, NN, FF) but I wouldn't hold my breath making it work in IE.
