Hey guys,

I have to create a backup file of our database, and it has been a long time since I've done this action. I remember most of the procedure, but I'm a bit uneasy about creating the database backup file name. Do I have to give it a *.bak extension? I selected file type bak and just gave it a name, but the backup file does not say it is a bak file. So do I have to put .bak in the filename, or does it even matter if the file is bak?

I am using SQL 2005. Thanks!

My experience shows that the extension is not important. I renamed my Differential Backups to bdk to be able quickly identify them (default is bak, same as full backups).
