Guys,

Can you please take a look at the following page:

This is one big table. The width of the cell that stores the picture of the factory is set to the same width as the picture. However, as you can see, there is a large amount of whitespace to the right of the picture.

I think that it has something to do with the fact the cell below it has a colspan of 2. However, what can i do to fix this problem. I want to get rid of that whitespace. Mise Le Meas,

Mighty :)

i think your problem lies in the fact the top level table ahs a width of 100% this means whatever you specify the td widths as they will have to expand to fill the browser window. try resizing the browser and youll see what i mean if you shrink it the whitespace dissapears!!

youll have top use more than one table (not nested) or have a table width not specified as a %age. Fixed and dynamic widths dont wqork well togther at all.

hope this helps

one way to get round this problem, is to set the width of the right hand cell to 100% and don't specify the width of the cell with the image in it.

this means the right hand cell will take up as much room as it can, collapsing the whitespace in the cell containing the image.

SecretSquirrel,

Thanks for the tip. Probably not the best thing to do, but it works. Mise Le Meas,

Hi Mighty,

With SecretSquirrel's tip I see that the left cell is not 30 annymore (I use IE 4.0).

If you set the with of left cell about 2% or 3% you have your leftmargin back again.

OK, I know: also not the best thing :) but it works to.

Erikl,

Thanks - but I just put in a blank image and set the width to 30. That kept my left margin intact. Mise Le Meas,

Mighty :)

Hi Mighty,

Just another "little" tip, you probably know allready:

put an "temporary"   in the second cell of the first row (if you make the banner.jpg after your first publication) so that NN also show the borders of that cell,

Erik

Instead of declaring that table td as a percent, specify it as a value near the width of the picture. It's probaby around 40 or 50 I'd say.
