this is frustrating. does anyone know how to do simple aligning, resizing and placing in photoshop?

I want to resize something to an exact width and height. where do i enter the numbers?

I want to align center something on the canvas. how?

Also I want to place some text at an exact x,y point.

I can do this generally but how do I do it exactly using numbers?

please help..i have to figure this out. thanks.

Hi,

This is very easy to do, and you use the same method for every thing you have listed above. EIDT|FREE TRANSFORM (Ctrl+T). Make sure you have the options palette open too. WINDOW|OPTIONS or WINDOWS|SHOW OPTIONS, depending on what version of PS you are running.

Select your layer, then do the free transform command , then look at the options palette. I will explain all of the little icons along the options bar now. I will explain from left to right along the options bar (the first is a drop down but that will be greyed out, so don't worry about that.)

- 9 little white squares with one of them being highlighted black: this is your reference point location selection tool, it co-incides with each corner and side and the center of square bounding box surrounding your image or text or whatever. Usually when one talks of placing something at an exact pixel location then they are usually referring to the top left corner. Make sure you select the top left little white box so that placement is acurate, it will turn black.
- x: & text input: this is where you enter your exact placement value from the left hand side of the canvas
- y: & text input: this is where you enter your exact placement value from the top of the canvas
- w: & text input: this is where you enter your exact width of the image
- chain link icon: click this if you wish to have the image maintain it's width to height ratio size when resizing
- h: & text input: this is where you enter your exact height of the image
- angle icon & text input: input the exact angle at which you wish to rotate your image
- h: & text input: input the exact angle you wish to skew the image horizontally
- v: & text input: input the exact angle you wish to skew the image vertically

For the first 4 inputs along the options bar X:, Y:, W:, H: you can right-click to choose the type of measurement you wish to transform: PX, INCHES, CM, MM, POINTS, PICAS, % (% is only available for the width and height inputs)

Hope this answers all your questions and helps you learn more about free-transform.
