simple map

I am creating a logo for an upcoming County Attorney election. Client wants a simple filled in map of Rockport Texas. This should be simple but I cannot draw very well with a pen tool and fill it in. I can only draw line. How can I close it and fill the map with a color?

The pen tool is the most important tool in Illustrator. It would be wise to read the manual or find a YouTube demonstration.

When you return around the shape to the initial point, your pen tool icon will display a circle. That means that you can click to complete and close the path.
