Hi,

I previously installed linux on my machine without anyother operating system. Although the plan was to keep Windows98 and install Red hat 7.2 along side it. I tried to reduce the partition size by using FISP but it didn't work for some reason. Then I decided to have Red Hat rather than Windows98.

Now I have formatted the hard disk and I've installed windows98 buuuut....... I've left half of the space un used i.e. half of my hard disk is not used at all and doesn't appear in the Windows.

SO, the question is, If I install Linux Red Hat will it automatically take up the leftover space and live besides windows 98? I dont want to lose windows and I want Linux to take up the left over space.

You may have to tell RedHat's installer to preserve existing paritions, but it should handle it fine.

The installer does not make changes to the partitions until you have approved them. If you don't like what you see, reboot and start the install again. ______________________________________________________________________
Perfection in engineering does not happen when there is nothing more to add.
Rather it happens when there is nothing more to take away.

But the last time i installed Reh Hat 7.2 there was no option of preserving the existing partitions. Was it because there was no space available? Will there be any space now?

During the RH installation, you should see the FAT32 partitions and the free space on the drive. Just use the free space, and leave the FAT32 partitions untouched.
