I've just switched from dbase and Clipper and have run into a problem already that is probably just dumbness on my part.

Why do I get mm/yy appearing in the form field when I want to enter the expiration date of a credit card? All keystrokes do nothing. It just stays mm/yy.

I used the wizard to design the field with an input mask of mm/yy and mm/yy;0. Nothing happens. I have five books and I cannot find a clear explanation.

I thought I was supposed to get a field with a mask of 00/00 and then type over the place holders.

I put a mask edit on a form (Access97) and the format of the mask for short date looked like this on the property sheet: 99/99/00;0;_

The underscore character at the end is the placeholder, and I don't see that in the example you gave. Maybe you need to include that to make it work.

Hope it helps, Bear

CTC,

I think you have 'format' and 'input mask' confused. 'Format' defines the data type while 'input mask' defines the restictions for user input.

If this field is a date field in your table, then the 'format' property for the field should be 'mm/yy' but the input mask should be '00/00;0'

If it isn't a date field, you may need to include valudation checks (i.e >= 01/00 and <= 12/99) cuz ya don't want them to enter 13/99

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Zeros imply that a digit is required in that position.
