I have to start somewhere, right?

How do I access my computer if:
* I am running Apache web server
* Have a cable modem
* Have already served up "index.html"
* Have an IP address (supposedly) of 24.177.21.10 (maybe
you can go there and check)

for example, does this work: why/why not?

Thanks guys!

Hmm.

It appears that your router is currently offline (I just tried a ping and a Telnet to port 80, I don't scan people), or else you haven't mapped port 80 through your router to your web server yet.

If this is to work your router/NAT box must be able to accept port 80 requests for relay to your web server on the "inside" (your LAN). Most recent cable/DSL router products have this capability, often termed "Virtual Server settings" or some such thing.

Check your router documentation.
