I'm living on a college campus with whom is supplying my network access. The BEFSR41 works perfect for giving all computes (one XP Pro desktop, one WinME laptop and two Win98se laptops) access to internet, AIM and similar functions. I was able to make the 2 Win98se laptops see each other and easily transfer files from on to the other, but the WinXP machine is completely hidden from the others.

I have the most up today firmware one the router, all computers get their IPs from the router. Everything is fine except for the XP not seeing the other computers, and visa versa.

You likely did not enable "Netbios over TCP/IP". It is not enabled by default.

Second possibility, your are logging in on the XP machine with the "Welcome" screen and the default empty or blank password.

Third possibility, you are not sharing anything at all on the XP machine.

Fourth possibility, you let XP enable its native ICF Firewall. a no-no, and it does it so easly.

See Steve Winograd's comments and step-by-step guide to the use of Simple File Sharing - enabled under XP:
You will soon sort the issue.

Best wishes,
Bill

the XP machine is set to auto log into the local admin account via TweakUI. I do come to think of it have the XP firewall enabled from a previous net setup. And I have both hard drives shared.

guess I'll have to disable the firewall and see how that works (I'm at work now).

I disabled the WinXP firewall and all is great. Thanks -- for the input, I'd forgotten it was on.
