simple encrypt

I'm looking for a way to encrypt user id numbers that are being passed via <a href=""> tags. Basically, rather than have the url read

http://www.mysite.com/view_profile.cfm?id=3

I would like it to be more like

http://www.mysite.com/view_profile.cfm?id=4GFU7

I've used encryption several times, but I always use Hash with SHA and MD5, but this makes for a very long url, and I just don't like the look of it. Anyone have any ideas?

CF has built in encryption and decryption functions. I use them all of the time when passing url vars. MX 7 has some new features in the encryption function, and it makes it a little trickier to use, but once you figure it out it's pretty easy.
