Trying to find a simple definition for target line types.
What is "public"?
What is the difference between "DN:xxx" and "Public"?

Thanks in advance.

Public is normally referring to digits across the public network
Where the DNxxx and private are for Private networks it allows you to just dial an extension instead of a 7 or 10 digit number to get someone.

Nortel owned an MCDN protocol that you added to your system, via a license, to open up the true "private" network. If my customer didn't want to spend the coins on the license, I had to build the digits in the public field to receive the input from the other systems, for the system totally ignored the private field...They could have changed it, but that was the case, at least, up to 3.6 release
