Simple Counter to more extensive counters?

In the example on version 6.3 the best example is the SessionsCount example yet this is object/function orientated.

Could someone write a simple counter for me?

I just want to count how many times the PF12 key is pressed and exit when a different key is pressed and display in a dialog box what the count is.
