I'm looking for a really simple software that would allow for a departmental journal or periodic posting of information on an intranet page. It should display in a web browser (duh).

Requirements:
- open source
- runs on linux/apache
- php OK, perl preferred, NO DB
- browser entry, NOT text file like Blosxom
- display in simple html template, users need no html understand, but journal can have basic attributes like bold, text color, etc.
- should allow multiple users to login and update, with tracking/posting of the person that posted.
- able to display in table or frame (table preferred)

Any suggestions would be great! I need Blosxom with a few more features or something -- not something heavyweight like MoveableType. (I think - convince me otherwise :)

Thanks!

How about the phpBB bulletin board, yes I know you said no DB but MySQL is free and how else will you get all the login and tracking features?

Chris.

Hi. Have you heard of a Wiki? This might be what you need. A Wiki is a website that a bunch of people work on and update, plus it lets you use your browser to do the updating. It has shorthand commands to do headings, bold, lists, links, etc. No HTML needed.

The idea is people are free to add and link to new sections as they see fit, and over time the thing grows and becomed richly interlinked. Think of an anthill. We're using one at work to document our software project.

Go to (open source software site) and search for Wiki in projects. Hundreds will come up, and you can then qualify the search by programming language, such as Perl.

Hope it helps

Coranto (search google). Its a news script that is easy to modify and it does everything you want.

I briefly looked at Coranto, and that looks pretty good ... I'll look more tomorrow.

Wiki's are something that I've heard of, but never understood. Maybe kind of heavyweight for what i need?

Wiki is overkill if it's just one person updating, but not with multiple people. Some are also more complex than others, requiring logins, etc.
