I have 2 questions to ask: #1 When i take a picture and load it into Illustrator, how can i Make the picture a silhouette? #2 Also when i live trace a picture i drew in B/W, is there a way i can cuztomize the live traced pic more? as in thickening the individual lines? because it seems liek i can, when i click on the live traced picture it selects the whole thing instead of an uindividual part of the pic. Thanks

...you have to expand a live trace image to get at the structure...

...object > expand appearance...

...or hit the expand button in the toolbar of live trace...

That worked, thanks alot...anybody have any replies for the silhouette?

...the silhouette depends on the subject you have, if the live trace feature gives you a defined outline you can clean it up manually or use the live paint feature to fill in areas that are closed...

...the alternative, and one often used, is to trace an outline with the pen tool manually if all else fails...

...lock the image on a layer, double click the image layer and choose 'dim images', create a layer above it and draw around it...

Andrew

..sometimes you can get a good silhouette in photoshop of the subject by targetting a channel that has good contrast to it's background, dupe the channel, us levels or curves to get as much solid in the subject as possible, brush some areas if required...

...with this you can then convert it to grayscale, import this to illustrator and perform a live trace to get it to vector...
