Hi Techies,
I am wondering if I can extend or turn off the silence detect when leaving a message in a voicemail box. It seems to be about 6 seconds before the prompt comes in saying " no sound detected you are now being transfered to the operator"
Any clues???
Thanks
Brooke

Nope, no interface for that (that I know of). The timer is 5 seconds. You just have to keep talking....

The problem is that when this happens it says being transfered to the operator and goes to the primary greeting, very confusing for customers. Is there a way that if this happens it can be redirected back the mailbox?

So if I'm understanding properly, you call into someone's voicemail, you hear their recorded message, you hear the tone, then say nothing for 5 seconds and it sends you to the operator? And you want this instead to keep going back to the same voicemail box instead?

The short answer is no, since this is the same behaviour you would have if you had left a message. i.e. leave a message then press #. If they didn't leave a message the first time, why would they on the second try? or third?

Trust me, I know this is a silly request but my customer deals with suicidal people and they call in at night, get flustered and don't know what to say. Then they get redirected to the default message and get more confused. Any way to turn it off?

The Embedded mail is a very basic voicemail. There are no adjustments possible for what you are asking. Consider what you are asking. The voicemail is designed to record speech, if no one is speaking, there's your problem. Try fixing the actual problem. (It'll be easier, trust me)

Thanks, At least I can tell the customer" Bad Luck",

There should be a direct tranfers to a cell phone
Even a normal answering machine does disconnect if there is no sound for a couple of seconds

The only other thing I can think of is to add some kind of noise to your trunks to fool the silence detector. The trick with this is to make it noticeable enough for the silence detector but not enough to upset the call progress tone detection that tells voicemail when the actually hung up, otherwise you have a never-ending call.

If your customer is actually dealing with suicidal people, then perhaps they should think about having someone answer the calls. Not sure just how much comfort they think they'd be giving someone by having them talk to a machine... ;)
