Significant Speed Loss with IPS

Here's my network setup:
- Cisco 1811
- FastEthernet0 --> WAN
- FastEthernet1 --> LAN
- NAT shares the internet with my LAN

I've been trying to get my IPS configured properly, but as soon as I enable it on any interface, I notice dramatic loss in speed. I can easily download at 500KB/s without IPS enabled, but only at around 250KB/s with IPS enabled.

Am I perhaps enabling it on the wrong interface? What is the most effective interface to install IPS with my network setup? They have inbound and outbound options for each interface, and I have no clue which to pick.

Thanks
