I'm looking at the configuration for my signalling group for a SIP trunk that I have that ties our Avaya CM6 VoIP PBX to a Cisco Call Manager. My question is, on page one of the SAT signalling group change screen I have a parameter called, "Far-End Domain" and I need to know if this parameter can be set to the IPv4 address that is mapped to the "Far-End Node Name". Is this allowable, or even practical?

Communication Manager uses this value to help determine if the inbound SIP message is for that particular signalling group. It is possible to have multiple signaling groups to the same Far-End Node. Sense they would have the same IP address, they are separated by either different ports, or by different domain names. This value is also used to construct the host portion of the To header in outbound SIP messages.
The value for the Far-End Domain should match the host portion of the PAI header coming from Cisco. This can be either an IP address or a domain name. If it is an IP address, then it most likely would match the IP address of the Far-End Node Name, but not necessarily.

To answer your question, it is allowable and very practical.
