Hi,

CS1000E 5.0 running with SRG50.
In-skin CP PM signaling server running NRS.

I keep getting a series of errors on the signaling server console complaining about enabling and disabling the Primary and Secondary server in the line of:

LOG0006 TPSARRece: Disabling Primary server

Everything seems to be working ok but I wonder what the heck this is all about. I can't find anything in the Nortel docs or online.

This was a fix from nortel we had for a similar issue:

Answer:
All SS and cards send to master these messages to verify if it alive.
Signaling Server has highest priority in election process. Therefore it will be
elected any time even if there are several MC cards with Leader capability
turned on.
If you see lots of elections in logs there would be couple of problems:
1) Network failures. Link between Master SS and other endpoints go down,
election invoked by any of node element.
2) More than one element in the node has Leader option enabled. If this is the
case, Leaders will invoke election continuously. To disable Leader capability on
MC card type clearLeader in vxshell and reboot the ca rd.
The point 2 above does not apply to this situation. The possibility of the
problem may be due to discard of the messages in the datanetwork, or due to too
much broadcast messages to the Mediacard which could caused the election.
Extract from System Recovery document FYI:
The link to the Call Server (PBXLink) is monitored with a heartbeat mechanism.
The RUDP keep-alive timer is set to poll the far end every 2 seconds. If the
message is not responded to, the PBXLink is torn down (ELAN down).
1.1.1 IP Line
Once the Line TPS application receives the ELAN down report from PBXLink task,
it will do the following:
Refuse further set registrations.
A 120 second timer is started. When it expires, the Line TPS application will
call an election and give up its mastership (if it has mastership before the
ELAN failure). A new master TPS will be elected within 15 seconds.
A 600 second (10 minute) timer is started and phones remain registered to this
Line TPS application. The Line TPS will send “Hard reset" message (Rls 3.0,
2.11.03) or “soft reset" message (Rls4.0 and Rls3.0 with patch MPLR18849) to
every phone registered on it after the timer expires. The timer allows active
calls to continue without interruption for 10 minutes. If the ELAN recovers in
that time, there is no service impact to the phones as long as a user doesn’t
press a key or go on/off hook.
If a user does press a key or goes on/off hook, the phone is immediately reset.
This enables the phone to start searching immediately for a working server to
minimize the out of service delay.
Note: The Leader/Master TPS announces its presence by sending a broadcast
message via TLAN every 30 seconds. If a follower TPS does not receive this
broadcast message in 35 seconds it will call an election. This is irrelevant to
the ELAN failure case.
Question:
In our case, the sig server (leader) is not failing and the IP phones do not
re-register. However the media cards think there has been a loss of sig server
and call an election.
At some point the cards or channels are reset.
Is this correct operation -- should calls be cut off?
Answer:
Yes calls could be cut off if the media card are reset during the election
process. IP phones were not re-registered may be due to the fact that it is not
timeout yet before the master recovered.

The on site engineer are going to:
1. Reset Media cards one at a time, to see if they cause election.
2. Configure every Media card so that they can only be a follower (clearLeader
and uncheck ENABLE LINE TPS).
