Sidewinder joystick 'Not Connected'

Hi,I just got my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro joystick, secondhand from eBay with no driver cd. It seems that all the drivers have installed ok automatically. I have the joystick connected to my SoundBlaster game port. But when I go to Gaming Options in the Control Panel and select the joystick I get 'Not Connected'.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
