After having sidekick 98 work great on my vista machine out of the blue it quit working. First it says "Sidekick has stopped working" and something to the effect that "Windows is working on a solution." Then I get a message that says "failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).

I have uninstalled all recently installed new software. (thinking there might be a conflict). Shut down my antivirus (ESET) and finally I tried to do a system restore but for some reason I am being prevented from successfully doing this (probably a whole other problem).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled sidekick w/ patch (w/ w2000 compatibility) into a different folder (not programs).

PLEASE HELP- I need to get at my contacts for work ASAP but can't! I would be so grateful for any help!!!
Thanks,
Shane

Dear Shanetek,

The only solution to that seems to be a re-install of the original software or, failing that, if you just need your contacts install Internet Sidekick from my website for the moment
See the following faq page:
faq807-3761
and then re-install Sidekick98(As suggested on the root of the C:\ Drive) when you are not in so much of a panic.
Internet Sidekick will read and write to all the Cardfiles/Calendar etc, at least you will have access to your data.

Regards Jim
Check the FAQ area of this Forum for answers (If there are any FAQs!) , it could save you a lot of time and effort! Good Luck!

I have had a similar problem and currently think that "run as administrator" was the one that made the difference. System Restore worked for a while as did reloading. Seems to be ok now- so open Windows Explorer, find sidekick.exe, right-click on it, and click on "Run as Administrator". I am not 100% sure if this was it as I fiddled around elsewhere but give it a try.
