I am running Sidekick 99 ver. 6.0 in a Windows XP Pro environment. For some reason, sometimes when I start the program up, the calendar will start appearing where the To Do's normally are (in the upper lefthand side of the screen instead of on the righthand side), or the calendar will just not appear at all (only the To Do's and Calls lists will appear in their usual positions). There doesn't seem to be any routine pattern to this occurrence. Sometimes it will happen every time I start the program. Other times, it can be days before it happens again. It appears that the configuration settings in my init.skw file (in the userdate folder) are being changed randomly, which is causing the layout problem when the program starts up. I have to edit the file and correct the settings at which point, the program starts up normally with the proper layout. I cannot determine what is causing these settings to change and how to prevent it from happening. Has anybody had this experience and how can it be resolved?

Sidekick 99 init.skw file keeps changing

Dear Rodgman,
First things first,
Did you install sidekick when logged in as administrator?
Is anyone else using Sidekick when logged in differently?
Scan for a virus then backup All your Data
to another disk.
Re-install Sidekick
Failing that, the following should solve the problem on a temporary basis.
1. edit the init.skw to reflect your
preferences
2. Copy the file to another location
3. Create a batch file to copy over tha file
each time you start sidekick and then to
carry on and open Sidekick.

I have never come across this before so could you please answer some questions:
1.Do you always start the program from the same shortcut?
2.Did you only install it the one time (up until the time I suggested you re-install)?
As I said at the beginning, please come back to us if anything that is said helps you out or if it doesn't, we become wiser with each solution, we also become wiser when we realise we have not got a solution!

I haven't done anything since your last post as I have not had any recurrences of the problem yet. It's more of an annoyance at this point than a problem. I'm just concerned that it may eventually become something more of a problem than what it presents right now. I've been using Sidekick 99 for years and haven't ever experienced this until the last few months. It happens sporadically for no apparent reason. Usually, you can isolate a problem to some other change that has been made to your system, but in this case, I can't think of anything I've done with my computer to bring this on. Yes, I usually do start the program using the same icon (actually it's a shortcut I set up in an after-market menu system I use called Fastopen) rather than an icon on the desktop or in the Start Menu. I haven't tried reinstalling the program yet. I assume that you mean reinstalling over the existing app rather than uninstalling and then reinstalling. I thought about the batch file approach, however, I wasn't sure whether or not this would create other problems (continually overwriting a newer version of the file with an older version everytime the program is started). I'm not sure how Sidekick uses this file. I could be wiping out certain settings that are being written to the file during the current session. Perhaps you can elaborate on this probability. Rest assured, if I can determine what is causing the problem, I will post this to the forum. I keep looking around for a possible replacement for Sidekick since it is no longer supported, but so far I haven't found a program worthy of migrating to.

I suggest you try starting it from a proper shortcut,
If you put a shortcut on the Winmenu rename it by adding a 1 at the beginning then if you press
Winstart + 1
it will open Sidekick (as long as only one shortcut on the startmenu begins with a 1).
(you can't get quicker than that)!

I suggest you try starting it from a proper shortcut,
