[sup]Question for James 33: How do we now upload files for use by others on this forum? I tried the link to Engineering.com but it didn’t work for me. I have the SK98.HLP files in .PDF format to share with any and all. Please advise me of the process to post that .PDF.
More Micro-Hard “Help” for Windows 10 and the old style .HLP Files as found in Sidekick 98. See my old thread thread807-1783236
Quite a while back I believe it was my old Sidekick “Pal Across the Pond”, (James 33) who asked if anyone had a .PDF of that SK 98 help file. And, if so, would they post it. Well, I have just created that PDF and would be happy to upload it and share it …absolutely free…no strings attached!
It has been quite a while since I wrote that piece about getting .HLP files to work correctly in W 7, 8 and 10. Now, I find that fix that I wrote about no longer works! Most recently after another wonderful Micro-Hard update, I again found my Sidekick 98 .HLP files directing me to the absolutely useless Microsoft fix page. And, the .hlp file did not work!
After surfing for way too long and not finding the answer….Eureka! A free program download gave me a utility that captured the entire Sidekick Help File and converted it into a PDF. In fact, it is said to work with any old style Wndows help file it the .HLP format.
The program, free for home use is HelpNDoc. The very complete user information and download page is here:
Yes, I checked it with Norton first. Clean! I also did the download as the page instructed and the program works just like it should. It presented me with several options to convert the Sidekick .HLP file. [sup]I chose .PDF and followed the instructions found on that web page. It worked fine.[/sup]
No, I still can’t click on the “Help” category on my Sidekick Dashboard. Doing so takes one into the bowels of Microsoft non-answers. This newly created PDF Sidekick 98 file is stand-alone. So you have to open it separately to search for your Sidekick help. But it works great! To be sure, this PDF SK Help File it is a lot longer than I would like (1.58 mg. with 200 pages). But an Adobe PDF is searchable and easy enough to use. And my help files will always be there, even after a MS Update.[/sup]
As soon as I learn how and where to post the file for upload, I will do so.
Merry Christmas to All of you Side Kickers
