Has anyone carried out a side by side upgrade.
The main problem I see with it is that I would have to create another instance and therefore change all ODBC links within the company and also connection strings via asp sites etc.
Anyone used this route???
Many thanks
Scott

Are you installing the 2005 as a named instance on the 2000 SQL server? If you can get new hardware for the SQL 2005 server you change the server name/IP to the original server name at the time of cut over. Then you won't need to change anything.

I've done a side by side upgrade. After the upgrade is complete, simply rename the server names so that the new server has the old servers name.
