Another question:
I am installing SQL 2005 Standard side by side with our current SQL 2000

It's a full blown install but we need to keep SQL 2000 for application databases that we are not ready to upgrade that application just yet to be compatible for SQL 2005.

However, my web developer needs SQL 2005 for their databases. My developer doesn't think we need to pay the full price for SQL 2005 because we are just doing a side by side install - however eventually we will upgrade all databases to 2005.

Any comments or recommendations?

You need to fully license your SQL 2005 server as well. However, if it's just for developing I would purchase a developer edition of SQL Server as that license is only $50.00 and comes with the functionality of Enterprise edition.

In additional to what Paul said...

If you are installing SQL 2005 on a SQL 2000 server then yes you need to purchase a SQL 2005 license.

If you are installing SQL 2000 on a SQL 2005 server and you have CPU licensing then you do not need a second license.

If you are installing SQL 2000 on a SQL 2005 server and you have CAL licensing then you do need a second license.
