In school a lot of machines are left on over night and i have to spend time going round the computer suites making shure the machines are shutdown at the end of the night .

I have been told it is possible to shutdown windows xp machines from the windows 2000 server that they are loged into. if it is possible how do i do it.

You can do this but you will need a third party tool. One that I use is ps tools:

This is a suite of tools for remote admin, and the one that you would want to use is psshutdown. You can add all your computer names to a file and then run psshutdown and make it read the file and shutdown every computer that you have. Check it out, I use it all the time and its free :)
