I Purchased a power mac G5 single processor, I am running panther. Every now and then out of the blue a shutdown screen comes up saying you need to restart your computer . Hold power button down or press restart button. The fan is blowing loud. I reboot it and then it is fine. Any ideas???

mackster,

I could have *sworn* that I responded to your message a couple of days ago, but I don't see it:

If the "shutdown screen" you are seeing is a transparent dialog box with messages in several languages, then you've experienced a "kernel panic".

A panic is the equivalent of a sad Mac, but it usually indicates a much more serious problem. If this is really happening all the time, I would suggest getting your machine checked out. You may have a bad RAM chip.
