I have windows 98. Everytime I go to shutdown, it never completes the process. After shading the desktop, it goes into a black screen that will stay there until I manually turn off the computer. I don't want to mess up my system doing this everytime! What should I do?

Hi King,

Its a pretty well known problem with Win98.

Check out the FAQ in this forum and create the shutdown, icon the way I have explianed, it should help. Oh and of course the patches have been known to help as well..

Win ME does the same then comes up with a boot files needing repaired. This is getting old. I'm running a AMD Athalon 650 with 256mb memory.
I've formatted and reinstalled. Still does the same thing.
Any suggestions?

Dear King of Snake,
I also encountered this problem a couple of times. To make this go away, I made a simple batch file called "close.bat" using the command:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe, exitwindows
which works like a charm.
If you want, I can e-mail this batch file to you.
