I have An HP desktop computer running Windows ME. When i try to shut it down, it restarts instead. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks,

Jim

This could be due to the The power management in the BIOS of the PC. This can cause such unwanted reboots in some cases.

Disable the power management in the BIOS of your PC.

This May help The shutdown process

It doesn't seem to be the power management. It doesn't hang when shutting down like most people seem to have a problem with in here. It just shuts down and then restarts.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Jim

try an obtain an flash bios update from hp and see if that works, it worked for me when i had that problem.

Yes, It is the Power Manager. You have to tell the BIOS to either restart without totally shutting off the power or shut off power. Look under the Power Management Tab on the BIOS.
