I'm having a shutdown error message. It is...

Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x66904200" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

I do believe it is an error with IE 7 and Office 2003 Standard. The machine is an RP5700 with 1GB of RAM.

Can you Shutdown via Safe Mode with no error message? If so, see if you can eliminate a possible cause of the problem.

A check for malware might be an idea too?

I see lots of recommendations here for programs like -

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
