Shut down windows and it starts right back up? 1

hello,
well i have a win98 pc and the only problem i have is that when i got to "shut off" command the pc shuts down but in three or four seconds it starts right back up with out touching a thing. just wondering if you had any answers.

Hi;

When you select shutdown from the start button, are you sure you then selected "Shutdown" and not "Restart" from the options window???

yes,i am positive because i have had this problem for about a month now. i am sure i click the shut down button the start/shutdown option and am sure that the shut down option is impressed.

I have the same problem with my machine. I cannot find any reason for. If anyone can help I would be very thankful.

yes i am sure i checked the registry and found nothing that would automatically make it start back up, could it be a different setting?

Go into your bios and uncheck any "wake on ..." features

Often it's 'wake on lan' that causes a restart.

where is the ATX power supply to turn off?

There are many reasons why this would happen, I tried them all. Didn't work. I changed my power supply and that fixed everything. So work down the possible solutions and if nothing works then its your power supply.

im not sure if this works but i was messing with my computer a few weeks ago. In RUN-> msconfig go to the general tab and click advanced. from there make sure that 'Disabled fast shutdown' is CHECKED. I unchecked it and my computer keeps booting up by itself, so make sure it IS checked... hope this helps at all: )
