While ending the work for the day, what is the best option, should we shut down the computer or should it just be left oof in the power mode switch and just be logged off.
I'm assuming (Oh-Oh) that you are talking about workstations.
There are so many reason pro and con, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Does a workstation need to be shutdown? No, I have some that have been running for weeks with no trouble. Is it good practice to reboot once in awhile? Of course. Memory leaks and other problems can be kept under control through a strategic reboot. I myself prefer to shutdown workstations at the end of the day, if for no other reason, to conserve a little energy.
I have utilities such as virus update and backup run on the workstations at night, so I ask the users to log off instead of shutdown. The power conscious folks power the monitor off - although most of the monitors we have go to sleep. On weekends, we usually shut the workstations down. I have never seen an exact answer to which is best, though.
