Has anyone ever been bored and decided to shuffle up the order of their SSA disks? If you do this, and reboot, will LVM still relate the right hdisk to pdisk and successfully mount filesystems?

The reason I ask, is that I'm moving a server from one place to another, and I can't guarantee that the SSA disks will be cabled up in the same sequence at the other end. ( The disks will be going into new drawers.)

Also, the disks might be in a RAID5 configuration at the time of moving - would this make any difference?

Thanks a lot
Mark

mkharris,

Well changing the cabling will make no difference to existing disks and as long at the RAID 5 disks are cabled up in the same loop they will be o.k. also. The PVID and VG relationship will be maintained regardless of the cabling, or course new disks may be picked up differently if you change the cabling but that is not an issue in your case.

Cheers
