Hi all,

I am a one man IT team at my current job which spans 3 locations... we have Norton Corporate 9.0 installed on all machines.... I am having a problem with my users because when ever a virus is detected they scream and I need to go to them asap! 99.999999% of the time it has been deleted or quarantined so there is no reason for me to have to go to them.

I am thinking of turning of the warning message when a virus is detected.... is this a good thing to do?

Any advise will be great

That question is for you to answer. If you turn it off, yes they won't be bothered, but if there is a virus on their file system that the antivirus cannot quarantine or delete, then they will never know, and the virus can continue its payload. Leaving it running may incur more support calls to you, but at least you have an idea of who is getting hit by constant virus activity.

I believe Corporate can alert you to virus detections, so if you turn off their warnings, you better regularly read your centralized logs.

Also, if e-mail is the source of your virus activity, consider switching your hosting provider to one that uses virus filtering, or if you host it yourself, then add that service to your mail server.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Agree, it is your choice, however an alternative is to use the Alert Management System. You can set this up to alert you if a client workstation detects a virus. It can be set up to tell you what, when, who, and where. I understand your position. We currently have over 200K + clients on our network and it is growing. We use the AMS for numerous reasons. 1. It alerts the watch to possible outbreaks. 2. Some one sticks a CD, floppy, or USB stick with hacker tools we know almost immediately. It has become a very usefull tool. The alert function we use is a message box. It will send an alert to any workstation or server you have AMS running on. It goes directly to our watch consoles.
